Moments to Treasure

Precious moments compose our days,

Which become filled in myriad ways,

With joy and sorrows making us grow,

Sharing life and love with those we know.

When I look in the eyes of my grandchild,

I sense a sweetness that brings a smile.

Like their parents and a bit like me,

Each day is a journey; that’s the key.

Cling to the childlike wonder in life,

Release the hatred, anger, and strife.

Squeeze the most out of every minute,

And savor time with loved ones in it.

Look in awe at sunsets, rainbows, and dawns.

Enjoy the smell of new mown grass on lawns.

Relish the roses covered with dew,

And the eagle soaring into view.

Reach for the stars; let tears blind your eyes,

Never a good emotion despise.

Sing in the shower; dance in the rain.

Act silly without the need to explain.

Try something new, be brave and explore.

Make friends with someone others ignore.

Fill this cup of life up with new wine.

Be reverent; draw near to the divine.

These rare moments must be held and cherished,

For we know not when we shall perish.

Life is as a slender, silken thread.

Soon it will break and we shall be dead,

So embrace those who mean the most to you,

And love, live, and learn in all you do.

When looking for treasure, don’t look far.

It’s all around wherever you are.
