Start.
Joy is a choice. You can choose to find joy in the midst of whatever you are going through, if you care to look for it. Our joy as well as our strength comes from the Lord, but if we choose to find reasons to be either aggravated, agitated or down in the dumps our joy will be diminshed. The aggravations of life are around us constantly. We won't have far to look. Finding joy must be a consious effort. We must search it out. Many times I find joy in the natural world. Its beauty and serenity fills my heart and soul with joy.
One thing I have to watch out for is the tendency to get caught up in griping and carping. That leeches the joy right out of my life. When I make an effort to think about all I have to be thankful for, I find a joyous frame of mind is restored. What we say is important. Words matter. The book of Proverbs tells us that the power of life and death are in the tongue. It also applies to joy.
God help me to speak words of joy and encouragement rather than words that bring down the hearts and souls of those around me.
Stop.
