Magnum's Huntin' Trip

Well, here I am at last doggone it! I haven't told ya what I've been doin' for ages and ages. I don't git my paws on the computer very much. Mom says I can git in too much trouble on the internet. I think she just doesn't want me buyin' doggie toys and treats! I saw a toy duck on the Cabela's website and I'm hopin' I'll git it for Christmas, if I'm good, of course. That's not as easy as it sounds. It doesn't help that I ate the head off the last toy duck. I pulled the stuffin' outta it, too. I don't know why I did it. It musta been that stupid soundin' squeaker. It was enough ta make anyone go beserk.

Enough of all that! Here's what I really wanted to tell ya: I went on a huntin' trip with Dad and my two best buddies a couple of weeks ago. Look below. Yup, that's me alright and I'm sittin' in the truck wonderin' where we're goin' and what we're gonna do once we git there. Pretty cute, huh?

We left Swan's Island loaded with gear. I was clueless for most of the ride. Then all of a sudden I saw those darned windmills on Mars Hill. That's when I knew I was goin' huntin'. I got so excited, but I tried not to let it show. I tried really hard, but I started shakin' like a leaf. You would, too, if you didn't git ta go bird huntin' for a whole year. I knew I was gettin' real close. I could hardly stand it.

When we pulled inta Arndt's Aroostook River Lodge and Campground in Presque Isle, I knew I was in for lotsa fun. I'm always happy to see Clare. She's nice and sends us to a good campsite. Below is a picture of the office, but I didn't take it and it wasn't snowin' when I was there. The Arndt's have a great campground and Ken (Clare's husband) is our guide. Anyone can have fun there even if they're not a dog like me.

We had a blast huntin' for three days straight and those boys are good shots. They didn't miss one single bird that they shot at. I can't say the same for Dad, but he had fun, too. I did a lot of work and about ran my legs off. I got a little mixed up every once in a while and chased rabbits, but mostly I flushed grouse. I still didn't see a timberdoodle this year and I'm startin' to think Dad made up the whole thing. It'd be just like him to send me on a wild goose chase. Come to think of it, we didn't hunt them either! Maybe next time.

Here's some pictures from the hunt. I'm the one with the long ears and the cutest, too.

Those boys'll never forget the great times they had with me and I hope we git to do it all agin for lotsa years to come. Bye for now. I hope ya liked lookin' at my trip. It was almost as good as goin' yourself, wasn't it? I thought so.

Magnum's Hot Weather Remedy

I’m kinda sorry I haven’t been puttin’ any posts on Mom’s blog, but as ya know by now, she’s a computer hog. I rarely git my paws on the keyboard these days ‘cause she’s so busy writin’ her stuff. I watched my chance and crept in here tonight while she was preoccupied with somethin’ else. Pretty sneaky, huh?

Well, I’ve lived through a coupla wicked scorchas this week and I don’t like it one bit. It’s been so hot that I’ve been pantin’ like crazy. Mom and Dad see to it that I have water to drink and shade, too. They are good parents.

The best thing ‘bout this hot weather is I git ta go swimmin’. I didn’t use ta like it much. My girlfriend Samantha ( she's the chocolate lab in the picture above) talked me into goin’ in the ocean last summah and now I love it. I really liked it today. Ya can’t beat the heat any better way than a cold dip in the ocean.

Oh no, I hear Mom comin’. I know she’ll make me git off the computer, but I’ll be back soon. I promise and I never break my promises like people do. See ya later! Maybe at the beach.

Magnum says: “Remember, if ya can’t stand the heat, git outta the kitchen! Go ta the beach instead!”

Magnum's Christmas Gifts

Christmas is over, so I thought I'd give ya the low down on what Santa brought. I got some things on my list, but not everything! Dad said that going without a bath for a month was out of the question. He said I'd smell 'doggy'! Can you imagine! What does he want me to smell like? I am a dog for cryin' out loud!

Anyway, Santa brought me a big bag of dog treats, some yummy bones to chew on, and a promise from Dad to take me on more huntin' trips next fall. Pretty good, huh?

I'm still kinda disgusted about bein' dressed up in that ridiculous Santa outfit. Check out the pictures below. Would you wanna be me? I didn't think so.

Magnum's tip of the week: Sometimes when you disagree with your parents you're better off to humor them than to growl about it.

Magnum's Christmas List

Well, here it is! It's Christmas Eve and I'm wondering what Santa Claus is gonna bring me. I've been a good boy all year long, so I've got a hunch that he's gonna bring me lots of good stuff. I made a list and checked it twice and since I haven't been naughty, I'm gonna get somethin' nice.

Here's my list:
1. New tennis balls
2. Bags and bags of dog treats
3. Bones
4.Chew toys
5. No bath for at least a month
6.Lots of huntin' trips next year

Dad gave me one present yesterday, but I didn't like it very much. He made me wear it and everybody laughed. I think they were makin' fun of me, but I'm not sure. Dad said I was Santa's helper. Take a look below and tell me what you think.

I'll let ya know what Santa brought me! Have yourself a Merry Christmas!

Duck Huntin'

Boy am I glad to get my paws on this computer! Mom is always hoggin' it to do her writin' and I don't get to use it. Well, here I am at last. Ain't ya glad to hear from me? You probably thought I didn't have anything to tell ya, but I've got somethin' I've been bustin' at the seams to say, so I'll get right to it.

Guess what I did a little while ago. Since ya don't know here it is: I went duck huntin'! Yup, I went with Dad and some friends. I had lots of fun huntin', but I found out somethin' that I never woulda guessed in a million years. Those ducks are not just ducky; they are flat out yucky. Oh, I went out and retrieved 'em like a good dog is supposed to, but I don't like 'em. They stink and I could hardly stand to put my mouth on 'em.

Dad brought the yucky duckies home and cooked them in his smoker for dinner. Now those boys I went with claimed they liked to eat 'em, but when Mom put 'em on their plates, I noticed that they didn't say how yummy they thought there were, so I figured I was right, after all.

The best part of the huntin' trip was ridin' around the shore in the canoe! That's was great. Scroll down and take a look at some pictures of me and those nasty ducks.

Ya want me to do what?

Here I go! Am I bein' a good dog or what?

                                Here, take this yucky thing!

Magnum's tip of the week: Trust your nose. If ya think somethin' stinks, your probably right!

Huntin' Trip

Boy did I ever have fun on my huntin' trip! I ran all over the place and flushed lots of birds. There was only one problem my huntin' buddies didn't turn out to be very good shots! I got pretty darn disgusted, but what can ya do? I kept up my end of the deal and ran my legs off and in return they shot two measly birds and I still have no clue what a timber doodle is! Dad said we didn't see one. Better luck next time, I guess. Don't tell Dad, but I think he had better do some more practicing on skeet!

Check out these huntin' pictures! Pretty cool!

Alright, I know you're in there!

                                                                 Stalking prey!

This is my buddy with his partridge!

Magnum's tip of the week: Sometimes ya can't do it all! I found 'em, I flushed 'em, but I can't shoot 'em! It was outta my paws!

A Huntin' I Will Go

Guess what. I'm goin' huntin' soon! Dad's gonna take me and I can hardly wait. He got me a new collar with a remote control (for my own good! Don't ya just hate it when people tell ya that? I do!) and it's blaze orange, of course. It makes lots of strange bird noises to help Dad keep track of me, but I wish those stupid bird sounds would shut up! It drives me crazy, but I gotta put up with it, if I wanna go huntin'.

Here I am wearin' my new collar. I'm sittin' in Dad's Lazy Boy chair. At least, he thinks it's his chair.

                         Oh no!! Busted!!

Dad said we're gonna hunt Timberdoodles! I thought that it sounded great, at first. Then it hit me! What the heck is a Timberdoodle? I don't know, but I've made a couple of guesses.

Do ya think that this is a Timberdoodle?

I thought it must be, but then I wondered what to do with it? I don't think this is right, do you? Why would I want to hunt him?

Then Mom went on a walk today and took a picture of somethin' that she saw and I think it could be a Timberdoodle. You take a look and tell me what ya think.

Well, it's made outta timber ,but this can't be it 'cause it just stands there starin' at me and doin' nothin', so I think I'll pee on it.

Then I saw this outside one day. Tell me what it is. I'm not so sure it's a Timberdoodle.

I could get into huntin' him, but he don't look too appetitizin'!

Well, since I don't have a clue what aTimberdoodle is after all this research, I guess I'll just hafta wait 'til I get there.

Magnum's tip of the week: If ya don't know what your looking for, just keep huntin' 'til ya figure it out!

Magnum and Samantha's First Fight

It's been another wild week! I found out that the old saying: True love never runs smooth, is true! My girlfriend, Samantha and I had our first fight! I had a hunch that she was stealing my bones and guess what. I was right! I caught her in the act. I was pretty mad and tried to take my bone back. She got real ugly about it and Dad had to separate us!

Oh well, ya live and learn I guess. She's gone home to Massachusetts and I rounded all my stolen bones up and brought 'em back home. She did do something nice before she left, though. She tried to dig me out of my doggie prison! It didn't work!

This is me having my morning coffee!

Mom says that the last thing on earth that I need is caffeine, but Dad lets me sneak a few laps of his coffee when she's not looking. Yay, Dad!!

Good to the last drop!!

Magnum's tip of the week is: If you think someone loves ya, make sure they're not just after your bones!

My Two Big Surprises!!

Guess what! It's time for my weekly blog post! I had a couple of big surprises this week. One was good and the other was not so good. I might as well tell ya about the not so good surprise first. Dad made me a doggy prison! Yeah, you heard me right! Can you believe it? Well, I couldn't!! Mom and Dad put me in there when they aren't at home to keep me out of trouble, at least that's what they tell me. As if, I'd get into trouble! What's the worst I could do? I'd chase a few rabbits! Big fuzzy deal!!
Now I peer out through that stupid dog fence like a jailbird! The only thing missing is an orange jumpsuit! Don't go giving them any ideas! We'll just keep that last remark our little secret!

What a revolting development!!

This is me singing the jailhouse blues!!

The second surprise was much better! My girlfriend Samantha is back for about a week and today we got to go swimming! It was awesome!!

Late summer swimming fun!!

Magnum's tip of the week: Be careful what ya do or ya might end up in the hoosegow singing the blues!!

Magnum's Hurricane Update

I've been out checking on Irene's progress! I don't think it's as bad as all the predictions, but it's bad enough. Ya know it's blowing a pretty good breeze when your ears are straight back behind ya! I think I found one of my lost bones washed up on the beach, but I still think I've missed some. I don't know if they were caught up on the wind or stolen by the Golden Retriever two doors down!! I'll investigate after Labor Day when she goes back to school!!

I'll keep ya updated with more hair raising experiences as conditions unfold.

I'm glad it's low tide! At high tide, I'd be swimming!

Check out this wind gust!!

Hurricane's A Comin"

I've been so busy this week! The last couple of days have been really hectic! I've been helping Dad and Mom get ready for the big hurricane headed in our direction. Today I picked up my toys around the lawn! I didn't realize how many things I left laying around and I must have found a ton of bones! I had forgotten about some of them. It would be really bad to have a bone fly through a window! I'm glad I took care of lawn clean up because I found some tennis balls that I had forgotten about, too. You can never, ever have enough tennis balls!

I hope everyone out there got all of their pre-storm preparations done. Stay inside and stay safe!

Let me see, one, two, three, four, five bones!

Wait a minute! I thought I had six bones! Maybe I better go take another look around!

Magnum's tip of the week: If ya wanna find something precious, be prepared to do some digging!

Can You Keep a Secret?

Wow! I've had a pretty good week! Mom says I have been a good boy except for one small incident. I went down on the beach and rolled in something real stinky! I couldn't help it! Some things are just too hard to resist and I am a DOG, after all! The rolling was the fun part, but the bath Mom gave me after was the icky part. I had my weekly scrubbing two whole days early!! Can you believe it?!

Can you keep a secret? You can? Well, that's good news because I can't! I just hafta tell ya something, but you gotta promise not to tell because Mom would be really ticked off, if she found out that I told. Promise? Okay! Here's the secret: That book that Mom has coming out soon has some interesting characters in it. Guess which one is my favorite? It's a talking dog!! Yeah, it is! I'm not lying! He is smart and has lots of attitude and personality. He's just the kind of dog I'd like to hang out with, if he was real, but he's not, at least I don't think he is. You won't believe the stuff he says and does and I don't dare tell ya anymore about it because I could get in BIG trouble!! Don't tell!

Here I am doing a little bird watching!
I wonder how many mourning doves it would take to make a pie?

Magnum's tip of the week: If you want to find what you're looking for keep your nose on the right trail.

What a Week!

What a week! It's been ruff or as you would say rough! I have bad news and good news!    I might as well tell ya the bad news first!  I got in so much trouble this week! I know, I know! It's hard to believe, but I did. Guess why? It's all because I made a couple of minor mistakes in judgment.
Mistake #1. I didn't think there was a difference between chicks. Dad said that chicks were fun, so I ate one!  Come to find out, he wasn't talking about the kind of chicks that have feathers! I didn't know that, so when I saw one scratching around in some one's yard I got confused and ate it! Dad and Mom scolded me and said I was a naughty dog! Can you imagine that?!

Mistake # 2. I ate a few fledgling birds. No big deal, right? Wrong! Mom told me she was disgusted! She was even more disgusted when she found out I threw one in the garden fountain! How was I supposed to know?

Here is the good news: I had a birthday day party!! Yay!! I turned one on August 12th!! Mom made me some special dog treats from a recipe she got from her friend, Jaime at Stitch 2 Buttercups.  Jaime makes them for her dog, Baxter and let me tell ya they are yummy! Visit her blog for the recipe!

Then guess what Dad told me I was getting for my present? He said he's taking me on a for real bird hunting trip just as soon as it's bird hunting season!! Can you believe it?! He said that I needed to learn what kind of birds to hunt and then maybe I'll get over all this other bird trouble I've been getting into!!

Here's my tip of the week: If you're willing to bark loud enough and long enough, you'll get what ya want!

How do ya like my party hat?

Pretty sharp!

Magnum Sets the Record Straight

Mom is so busy getting her manuscript all spiffed up for the conceptual editor that she doesn't have time to post anything on her blog, so she asked me if I would fill in for her.

I was so excited that I jumped up and down, but then I wondered what I could find to say, so I asked her what I could talk about and she said ANYTHING!! I asked her if she was sure about it and she said yes, so here goes.

When Mom gave me my very own Facebook Fan Page, I thought it was pretty cool, but then I started to get kinda worried about it. I could hardly sleep last night and I'll tell ya why.

Here's the deal. I bet you didn't even know that there's another Magnum. Well, there is and I don't want any confusion going on. When you visit my fan page, you will see me not that OTHER Magnum! He isn't even real like me! He's just a TV character played by that good looking actor fella, Tom Selleck.

Mom says that she has to admit that he's a handsome guy, but she says I'm better looking paws down!
I'll show ya his picture and mine , so you can compare. I bet you'll think I'm the handsome one!!

                                                                    Him

Me

Okay, I hope that clears up any confusion! When you like my page, you're liking a real dog not Tom Selleck pretending to be Magnum P. I.

Here's my very first Tip of the Week! Drum roll please! Are you ready? Magnum says, "If you want to be happier and better off, wag your tail more and your tongue less"!

See ya next week! Have a great week-end, but don't do anything to land ya in the dog house!

Magnum's Birthday Card

You'll never guess in a million years what came for me in today's mail!! Go ahead and try to guess!
I got an early birthday card from my girlfriend, Samantha!! She's a gorgeous Chocolate Lab!

I'll just bet that you don't even believe me. Well, do you? Ha, I knew you wouldn't, so I took pictures of the card to prove it, so take a look below! She wrote the sweetest message on the inside!! What a doll!!

See, I told ya, didn't I?!!
